Week Starting 27th April
Well, well, well. What a weekend of running action.
Jake Brown set a new club marathon record with a superb 2:33 at the London Marathon, and a PB to go with it. A winter of hard graft paying off in style. It was brilliant to see Jake and Jonny Morris striding it out in the first half, supporting each other all the way.
Strong, committed runs too from Jonny Morris, and a great marathon debut from Jon Hart, both putting in solid performances on such a famous course. Ben Broxton delivered a seriously impressive 3:20, showing real strength and consistency.
And Sir Alex Blair, the lord and master of this game, soaked up the atmosphere and everything London brings. After a tough season with a niggle, that’s a proper effort. Really well done.
It’s been a superb winter of training for our marathoners. They’ve shown that hard work, consistency and, yes, a few extra miles really do pay off. And of course, a bit of luck plays its part too. You can do everything right for this crazy distance and still pick up a niggle that derails it.
Personally, I can’t take much more of this. Sweating, heart rate through the roof, lying in bed, no not that kind of post, just watching nervously as you all turn months of work into race day. Please… can we do some shorter stuff for a bit?
Mid week saw the start of the Sexarathon.
In all the marathon glory, I nearly forgot that TRX members smashed the Sexy Series on Wednesday. A terrific show by all. A tough course that’s basically uphill from mile 3. The training is working, it would seem:
Oliver Jones – 28:37
Paul Marson – 28:45
Robert Cartwright – 30:22
Jack Inglis – 32:04
Richard Breakwell – 33:48
Rob Tavernor – 35:49
Superb to see the best out there.
Huge well done to everyone who has raced in all the marathons recently. Properly impressive across the board.
