Week Starting 6th July
Race round ups:
Vic Musgrove
Alex Kelly led the TRX Wolves home in a great time of 16:37. He is recovering well from the MCR Marathon and is now back on his 5k programme.
An outstanding run by Oliver Jones saw him smash through to the 16-minute 5k group. Joseph Marples also ran a storming race, lowering his 5k PB considerably with a new best of 17:14.
Brilliant runs by all our TRX Wolves members throughout the field. Rob Cartwright, Richard Breakwell, Rob Tavenor, Stuart Whitehouse, Danni Braine, Hannah Corns and Ellie Kelly all ran very strong races.
It was also great to see some of our second claim members doing so well. James Neilson ran a superb 15:32 to finish 3rd, Dylan ran a straight 17:00 for 23rd, and Beth Tabor finished 4th in a brilliant time of 18:08. Anna Moore ran a very strong race, picking people off throughout to finish in 22:36. It was also great to see Simon Calrow, Paul Dean and Russ Blair, our wonderful second claim members, putting in excellent performances.
Want to improve your 5k times? Then get yourself along to our Tuesday sessions, mainly on the roads, and our Saturday track sessions, which are specifically aimed at developing speed.
Jonny Morris happened to come across a race while on holiday and, like a true professional, entered the Fell Ras Moel Siabod race. It was his first time racing on the fells and he only went and got himself on the podium. What a legend! Great to see the TRX Wolves vest making it internationally... even if it was only as far as Wales!
Black Country Half[ish]
Lucy Calrow is fast becoming the most decorated female TRX Wolves athlete in our history. She took on the tough Black Country Half(ish) – it's a little long and more than a little brutal! Lucy finished in the top 35 overall including th emens field and claimed 1st female. Not only did she run brilliantly, she even got paid to do it. Winner all round! Second claim runners Tony Cheema and Andy Horton also did really well on the tough course.
Robs on his way back
A very special mention goes to Rob Carrington this week. As many of you know, Rob has given an enormous amount to our sport and has suffered some horrible injuries along the way. It was fantastic to see him back racing at East Park parkrun yesterday in a TRX Wolves vest. Welcome back, sir. We're proud to have you back in the pack.
Training this week:
We'll be using Compton Park on Tuesday. We've been on the roads a lot recently and Saturday's track session will probably still be in your legs, so a bit of grass will do you good. If it's too hot, we'll move onto the railway line where there's a bit more shade.
On Saturday we'll be back on the track. If you're looking to sharpen up or improve your speed, come along.
Tuesday – warmed up and ready to go: Compton Park (the "Field of Dreams" – the field between the old railway line and the Wolves training ground).
• 5-minute tempo
• 16 × 1 minute with a short recovery
• 6 × 15-second hill sprints
Saturday – warmed up and ready to go: 9:30am, Aldersley Stadium.
• 4-minute tempo
2 sets of 7 × 300m at 5k pace - One lap recovery between sets
• 3 x 100m off jog back
Another session specifically designed to develop your speed.
A few of us are heading over to Shrewsbury in the afternoon to watch and support our members racing the Shrewsbury 5k. If you can make it over, it would be fantastic to see you there and have as many supporters as possible cheering everyone on. Adam Rickhuss is making his long overdue race debut for TRX Wolves and Serge is back on the race list.
