Week Starting 31st August
Bit of a long one this week…
Club news:
Tettenhall 5k - marshals needed please.
As we slide into September, a quick shout-out to everyone who has already either entered the Tettenhall 5K or put their name forward to marshal. Thank you, people. Your support is hugely appreciated. If you can spare an hour or two on Wednesday 16th September, with the race starting at 7pm, please do sign up to help. It’s an open-road race, so we need plenty of marshals out on the course to help us stage a safe and successful event. Please if you can sign up here: CLICK ME
Relays & Vests
Our team managers and captains have been working really hard to select and enter teams for the upcoming relays.
Anyone who ordered a vest after our recent cut-off date of 8th August will NOT have their vest in time. If you’ve paid for a vest since then, you’re now on the waiting list and, once we reach the minimum order of 10, we’ll get the next batch ordered.
But fear not, you can still compete! For the upcoming events, we’ll make sure everyone has a vest. Several members have generously offered to lend theirs, and we’re also in the process of making a few ourselves.
*More news at this week’s sessions about a time trial for anyone who hasn’t raced recently, giving our team managers a current time to help them finalise the teams. 🐺
News from this weeks races:
First up: mid week race Ellerdine 5K:
Some great running from TRX Wolves:
Ben Foster – 17:42
Robert Cartwright – 18:43
Richard Breakwell – 18:52
Darren Owen-Jones – 22:23
Well done, lads. Great running on a tough course.
Mid Cheshire 5K
This race has well and truly established itself as a fast
and furious course. But don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s flat!
This incredibly well-organised race, set in the Cheshire countryside around Kingsley, near Frodsham, is fast because of the constant train of runners pulling you along. There’s always someone to chase and always someone chasing you. But you still need the grit and determination to get amongst them and hold your pace when it starts to hurt.
The TRX Wolves men and women put in a great shift, with some seriously quick running:
Alex Kelly – 16:24 – PB
Paul Marson – 16:47
Steven Newman – 16:57
Oliver Jones – 17:00
Joseph Marples – 17:02 – PB
Serge Guy – 19:10 – PB
Ellie Kelly – 22:41 – PB
A particularly strong run from our Road Captain Alex Kelly, leading the Wolves home in a new PB of 16:24, with PBs also coming from Joseph, Serge and Ellie.
Superb running in a very strong field. Great work, Wolves! 🐺
Great runs from our second claim members too. Jon Hart, W&B first claim but a proper Renegade Old Boy, clocked a blistering 14:45. Jonny Morris, who’s donned the black and white vest numerous times for us, came home in 15:00. A smashing run that! Beth Tabor ran just one second outside her PB with a brilliant 17:27, which is superb considering she’s right in the middle of a half marathon build. Dylan Illidge also had a fantastic race, smashing out a new PB of 16:29 after a great battle with our captain, Alex. Maybe the TRX vest would suit you better, Dyl! 🐺
Sydney Marathon
Different kind of beat!
From a 150-heart rate to 130 BPM, Ruby Richards put in a fantastic set of 16 x 400m yesterday morning, before heading home to prepare for a slightly different kind of session!
After getting the long run done, it was off to Creamfields, where Ruby Richards was playing the huge 30,000-capacity APEX stage at one of the world’s most famous dance music festivals. From running reps to playing to thousands of people in one weekend. Well done, Ruby! 🐺
New Appointments for TRX Wolves
The ladies’ committee members have nominated and confirmed two new appointments for the club. Hannah Morris is now our Women’s Road Captain, while Danni Braine takes on the role of Women’s Cross Country Captain. Congratulations to both, and a huge thank you for your continued support and commitment to TRX Wolves.
Our team managers and captains are now busy drawing up the teams for the upcoming relays. At the time of writing, we have an incredible five men’s teams lined up, while our women will field their first-ever TRX Wolves relay team, marking the club’s debut in the women’s event. A fantastic milestone for the club! 🐺
Shoe Dogs
We think we may have found a sneaker rival for Mr Mark Judge in our new member, John Dixon! As you can see from the pictures, John’s trainer collection is rather extensive. The big question now is, who has the bigger collection: John or Mark? We feel a TRX Wolves sneaker showdown coming on! 🐺👟

Training This Week
Tuesday
Warmed up and ready to go for 6.50pm, South Gate [Gate thats nearest the Brewery], West Park.
5K Time Trial. For those of you who haven’t yet put down a time for our captains and team managers to base their selections on, please come along and run this as quickly as you can.
For those who have already secured a time, run miles 1 and 2 at tempo, then mile 3 at threshold. A good controlled session without burying yourself. Then take 3 minutes recovery, followed by 6 x 30-second efforts off a 1-minute jog recovery.
Saturday
We’re heading to Sutton Park for a recce of the relay course. Meet at 9.30am at the main car park leading from Town Gate, Sutton Park – B73 6BU.
We’ll start with a group run around the course, cutting off a few corners to shorten it. Along the way we’ll pause for some insights and share a bit of experience about how the course should be raced.
It’s a strange old course where you really have to go through the gears. You need to know when to back off and when to go full-on. Blow up on the hill and it can be game over! We’ll talk you through it and make sure everyone feels confident about how to race it well.
Session:
Tempo around the dog leg of the course, followed by 25 minutes of efforts up and down the main hill. 🐺
