Week Starting 1st June
Thats May done then!
Another fantastic week for TRX Wolves AC, and there is plenty to look forward to over the coming days.
First up, a special mention to Johnny Morris, who has taken the TRX Wolves AC vest international! Johnny was representing the club at Parkrun in Australia this weekend. It's brilliant to see the TRX Wolves AC vest being worn on the other side of the world and a reminder that our members are flying the flag for the club wherever they go.
We're also delighted to officially announce that TRX Wolves AC has been accepted into the Birmingham Cross Country League. This is a huge milestone for a club that only began on 1st February. The league has a rich history and is one of the most respected cross-country competitions in the country. We'll start life in Division 3, but our goal remains the same as it has always been: to enjoy the journey, support each other and see where hard work can take us. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible, including our volunteers, coaches, officials, committee members and training partners.
With the winter season on the horizon, Lynette is also arranging a meeting with the TRX Wolves ladies to discuss plans for the cross-country and winter racing season. More details will follow soon, but it's an exciting opportunity to help shape what promises to be a busy and enjoyable winter for the club.
A quick word on the weather. The temperatures have certainly made training more challenging recently. That said, the weather looks a lot cooler this week, which should make training and racing a little more comfortable. Please continue to stay hydrated throughout the day, especially before evening sessions.
Looking ahead, this Saturday sees our East Park Parkrun takeover. It is also a big celebration for TRX Wolves member Rob Carrington, who is returning from a nasty injury and will be volunteering for the 600th time. Wow! These events are a brilliant opportunity to showcase the club and support the wider running community. Whether you're volunteering, running or simply cheering people on, your support is greatly appreciated. We'd love to see as many TRX Wolves AC vests there as possible.
After Parkrun, we'll be heading over to West Park to join Alex and the team celebrating the 120th birthday of the world-famous Royal Oak. The pub has long been part of Wolverhampton's social history and has many links with local runners over the years. The band Blur have often been spotted there too, as their roadies and musical directors use it as their local when they're back home. It also happens to be one of my old haunts from the early 1990s, although if I'm honest, I probably spent a little more time there than I should have done when I was meant to be training!
Tuesday Session
Warmed up and ready to go for 6:50pm at i54, where we did the winter mile efforts.
*Please do not park at Fordhouses Cricket Club, as we have received complaints.
Alternative parking:
• Aldersley Stadium - warm up to the venue.
• Barnhurst Football Pitches - easy jog down to the start.
• Morrisons - another good option if you want a short warm up.
Session
• 5 min tempo
Then:
3 sets of:
• 600m @ slightly quicker than 5k pace
• 75 sec recovery
• 1200m @ 5k pace
• 2.5 min recovery between sets
Aim for controlled running throughout. The 600s should feel quick but relaxed, with the focus on maintaining good rhythm into the 1200s.
Saturday
There is no official training session on Saturday as we're taking over East Park Parkrun.
If you haven't got a volunteer role, please come along and run. I'd suggest running at around three-quarter pace and then doing 8 x 20-second efforts afterwards.
I'd really like to see as many of us there as possible.
Then onto West Park for Birthday celebrations and fundraising for the Royal Oaks chosen charity Midland Freewheelers: Blood Bikers. Click link to see charity
