Week Starting 8th June
TRX Weekly Round-Up
Another busy and successful week for TRX, with plenty of racing, social running, volunteering, and a few local landmarks ticked off along the way.
Our weekend started with the TRX takeover at East Park Parkrun. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped make the morning such a success. From marshals and barcode scanners to timekeepers and tail walkers, the TRX team brought plenty of enthusiasm and encouragement to the course.
A special mention must go to Rob Carrington, who completed his 600th volunteer stint this weekend. Rob has supported Parkrun across Wolverhampton for many years, including East Park, West Park and Junior Parkrun. It's an incredible achievement and one we're proud to celebrate.
A special mention must go to Martha Cummings, whose vision, enthusiasm and dedication helped establish East Park parkrun. Her commitment can be seen every Saturday in the thriving community of more than 200 runners, walkers and volunteers who come together to make the event such a success. The welcoming atmosphere and sense of community that East Park is known for reflects Martha's hard work and passion. Thank you, Martha, for all that you do and for inviting TRX Wolves AC to be part of this fantastic takeover.
Thank you to Alex for your brilliant parkrun write up – I have stolen some of it for here!
We also celebrated the Royal Oak Birthday 5K at West Park. Organised by our Men's Road Captain, Alex Kelly, the event brought together a brilliant turnout from the club alongside runners from the Oak and some of our good friends from Wolverhampton and Bilston AC. We tackled the new Parkrun course (which, it must be said, is over!), before heading back to the Royal Oak for breakfast and some entertainment courtesy of the resident DJ. Some of us enjoyed the tunes more than others!
For some of our runners, there was also the traditional rite of passage this weekend on their Sunday long run finding the infamous Metal Tree near Wombourne. Hidden away in the woods, this mobile phone mast disguised as a tree has become something of a local running landmark over the years.
On the racing front, Tom Pryor opened his track season in style with a solid run over 1500m at the Midland Championships.
A huge shout-out goes to Adam Rickhuss, who smashed his 5K PB at the East Park TRX takeover, taking an incredible two minutes off his previous best running a 19.43 to complete his first sub 20. Not content with that, Ad then doubled up by running again at the Royal Oak Birthday 5K. A double threshold kina day! We're also delighted to announce that Ad has signed first claim for TRX and will add further strength and depth to our men's team.
More than anything, the weekend showed what TRX is all about. Whether volunteering, racing, chasing PBs, finding the Metal Tree, or simply sharing breakfast afterwards, it was a brilliant example of the supportive and inclusive community we're continuing to build.
On a very personal level I would like to say a massive well done to Serge Guy for completing his A Levels. I know how hard you've worked and at the same time the work you have put in and at the same time as keeping your running going.
