Week Starting 4th May

Great week of training completed and in the bag, with the return of most of our marathoners.

On the marathon front, quite a few of us have signed up again for Manchester and Edinburgh, so here’s to a strong spring and summer, and the start of 26.2-mile training in December 2026. Start picking some autumn 10Ks and half marathons now for the build-up. There will also be Birmingham League and Midlands Women’s cross country in November, December, January and February.

Alongside asking you to represent the club in these league events, we’d also like to ask if you would consider taking on some additional responsibilities:

We need:

  • Officials for races [Cross Country]
  • First aiders for training sessions

We would, of course, cover the cost of this training. Please let Adam Guy know if you have the time and interest. The TRX Committee Meeting is this Friday 8th May, so please do register your interest.

We’re also pleased to announce that TRX Wolves will be hosting the Tettenhall 5K on 12th August from Regis School. Adam Guy, who set up the race in 2025, brought it with him when leaving Wolverhampton and Bilston AC, with permission from their new Chair, Collin Thompson. Adam will also be working with Collin to help revamp and host the schools races in the future, which is a really positive collaboration. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.

The Tettenhall 5K was an enormous success in its first year, and Mr Parry, Executive Principal of St Peter’s Collegiate Academy and St Regis C of E Academy, has kindly given us permission to host it again. Plans are also in place to tweak the course slightly to make it faster. This race will form part of a three-race series, with more information on two late summer and early autumn races to follow. Entries will open in the next few weeks, so please do get involved and sign up.

These races will help fund league events and relays, so please do enter, and if you can, please volunteer to marshal as we will need around 25 people.

On June 6th, we will be taking over East Park parkrun. Let’s get out in big numbers. It would be great if some of you could marshal rather than run. Afterwards, we can head over to the Royal Oak on Compton Road to support their fundraiser for Midlands Freewheelers Blood Bikers. They need people to run their 5K races around the Compton area, which could double as our session. And, of course, a few pints afterwards.

This week’s race news:

TRX Wolves dominated the Birmingham 10K. Ellie Kelly ran a PB on a really tough course. The lads, Alex Kelly, Tom Pryor, Steve Newman and Rob Tavenor were led home by the brilliant Ollie Jones with an outstanding top 20 finish. Second Claim runner Anna Moore also ran a really strong race at the Birmingham 10k  Anna has been running really well in sessions and we’re hoping she’ll join us full time in the future.

In other news, a huge well done to Danni Braine, who represented her second claim club in the Midland Masters Track League, competing in javelin and long jump. Tom Isherwood ran a strong 1500m in the same league for his first claim club, clocking a great 4:36. The man’s got some speed! Our newest member, Hazel Smallman, showed incredible strength at Cardiff Hyrox. I think you’ll agree from the photos, she’s a star.
