Week Starting 13th July

Another superb week of running by you all. Great training and some superb racing as well.

First up was Tipton's brilliant new series at Baggeridge: The Andy Holden 5K. A tough venue and typical of the Green Hoops. They don't do easy! By all accounts, our members said it was a really well-put-together race. Hard, but fun. Well done to Paul Marson, Ben Foster, Lucy Calrow a fantastic second place - superb considering she'd just won the Black Country Half a few days ago, Richard Breakwell and Stuart Whitehouse, who all ran well in the heat on a challenging course. Second claim member Beth Tabor won the ladies' race overall, and Dylan Thomas managed a very respectable top-10 finish.

Jonny Morris claimed another win at the Stiperstones Fell Race. Great work and a very nice trophy!

Ian Mansell kept up his racing streak with a brilliant 14th place at the Northbrook 10K.

Next up was the Shrewsbury 5K. It has to be said that when we arrived, it was like an oven and the tarmac surface was hot! A full day of 5K races, with the inclusion of the International Masters between the Home Nations. It did look a little like the film Cocoon, with all the OAPs looking fast over the five laps!

If you're over 35 years old, you should definitely think about targeting an international vest. It's very competitive and you have to qualify to get a vest, which is brilliant. It's not like the GB ones or the Masters GB events where anyone can rock up and pay. These are serious competitions and they are fierce. The 85-year-olds are still running around 20 minutes for 5K!

The Shrewsbury loop is just over 1km and it's five laps of a cycle racing course. As a runner, you can lock in and put down a good race, and for spectators it's really special, with lots of chances to see the runners. The support is out of this world too, with everyone rooting for each other. The races are staggered into different abilities, which makes it even more attractive and fair.

We had four members out there yesterday. Derrick Milligan ran a very strong race, which was essentially part of a double-threshold day as he did the track session in the morning. Adam Rickhus made his club debut and put down an official PB with a very brave run. Serge Guy, on his way back, showed enormous strength by getting around in the heat. It was also great to see our newest second claim member Andy Weston out there too running a great time in the sun.

It's worth noting that young people's heart rates are much higher than some of us old uns! So, in the heat, it's really hard as you're already battling. It was lovely to see these guys get out there and rep TRX Wolves at such a brilliant race. Let's get the whole squad out for some of their future races. Well worth it!

And we have our first engagement too! Hot off the press... Our very own Matt Blair is now engaged to his lovely partner, Emma Brindley. Congratulations to you both. A TRX engagement! 💍🧡🖤
