Week starting 27th July
Weekly Round-Up
Another excellent week of training in the bag, with strong sessions on Tuesday and Saturday. You’re all starting to show real progress and discipline in training, and it’s great to see.
Be mindful that we have the National Road Relays coming up – the 6 Stage (men) and 4 Stage (women). Get the date in your diaries: Saturday 19th September.
The club will, of course, be covering the entry costs, so we’d really appreciate your support for our own race, which helps fund events like these. It would be fantastic to get a few men’s teams out and, hopefully, a ladies’ team too.
Racing
This week saw us head over to Wombourne for the brilliant Black Country Race Series, hosted by Tipton Harriers. A number of you put in big performances on a fast, although not completely flat, course that provided a great test of fitness.
Well done to Steve Newman, Paul Marson, Ben Foster, Lucy Calrow, Stu Whitehouse and Richard Breakwell for outstanding runs.
Our second-claim members also featured strongly, with James Neilson leading the way, closely followed by Dylan Illidge. Beth Tabor still leads the overall senior standings, while Cheryl Graham continues to top the W50 category with another excellent run. Big respect also goes to Paul Rogers, who ran a strong race and now leads the M60 category.
In what wasn’t really a race, Fiona Wright, Darren Owen Jones, Serge Guy, Lynsey Guy and Ad Guy headed over to Bridgnorth for the National Trust Comer 10K. It’s a really scenic, slightly hilly, fully off-road course through beautiful woodland. We should all give this one a go before the cross-country season starts—it’s a great test. It’s held on the last Sunday of every month by the National Trust and is completely free. There are no times or results—just a chance to enjoy a Sunday run with other runners.
Last week we forgot to mention Tom Pryer, who was representing his second-claim club, W&BAC, on the track. Tom ran an outstanding 2-minute 800m, then followed it up with excellent performances in the 1500m and 400m, helping his club secure some valuable points.
Cheryl Graham and Julia Condon also represented W&BAC in the Midland Masters League, putting in outstanding performances on the track and in the field.
Several people have asked about track competition recently, and we’re pleased to say it’s something we’re looking at. The intention is for TRX Wolves AC to join both the Midland Masters League and the Midlands Senior Track & Field League next year, giving our athletes even more opportunities to race on the track throughout the summer.
