Week Starting 3rd August [Yes its nearly Winter!]

Hello Members!

Another great week of summer training is in the bag, with some brilliant racing at the final Black Country Series event at Dudley Castle and Zoo.

The last race of the series saw our runners take on the brutal, hilly course around Dudley Castle and Zoo. Ironically, they were cheered on by the zoo's wolves as they passed through the grounds! Not a race for the faint-hearted, anyone who doesn't like hills… or animals, for that matter. Or castles! Or running. I'll stop now.

It's been a fantastic new race series from Tipton Harriers, with talk of adding a fourth race next year at the Black Country Living Museum.

Paul Marson won the highly competitive M40 series overall after an excellent set of performances across all three races, finishing 9th at the Zoo. Lucy Calrow produced another strong run, finishing 6th in a stacked women's field and securing 2nd place overall in the Senior Women's series – a fantastic achievement given the strength of the competition. Ben Foster once again showed his class, finishing 18th and 3rd overall in the M40 series. Richard Breakwell, who seems to be getting stronger every week, finished 38th at the Zoo and 10th overall in the series.

Our second claim runners also smashed it. Beth Tabor was the third lady home and won the overall series. Dylan Illidge looked superb throughout, finishing 7th at the Zoo and 5th overall in the series. Cheryl Graham crossed the line in 20th [lady] and finished 2nd in the W50 category. Paul Rogers produced another outstanding run, finishing 35th overall and winning the M60 series title. A little piece of history too: 25 years ago, Paul won this series and finished second at the Zoo, beaten only by Great Britain international and occasional training partner of Adam Guy over the famous "Teapot" course (a story for another day!) Mike Bouldstridge.

Superb running, everyone. These are tough races, and you absolutely smashed them. Let's get behind this fantastic series again next year as a club.
